ACT Greens wait on final vote count

THE ACT Greens have not yet begun any formal negotiations with Labor or the Liberals to decide which party will form the territory's next government.

The vote count is likely to wind up on Saturday and several seats are still in play.

Greens MLA Shane Rattenbury, who looks likely to be the minor party's sole representative, said he wanted to know the final outcome before starting any talks.

"With the vote being so uncertain this week and unclear how many Greens may be elected ... we've not started any formal discussions," he told WIN News on Friday.

Elections ACT data released on Friday still had Labor and the Liberals winning eight seats each, with Mr Rattenbury the sole crossbencher.

Liberal leader Zed Seselja said he understood the Greens' reluctance to begin formal discussions.

"The conventional wisdom has changed a number of times this week so I wouldn't be placing any bets on that result yet," he told WIN.

Labor leader Katy Gallagher described the week as a fierce rollercoaster ride, with the make-up of the 17-seat Legislative Assembly apparently changing almost daily.

"At the end of the day whoever is the government needs to work with the Greens and that's what will be the sole determining factor," she told WIN.

The latest update of preference distributions, released at 1pm (AEDT) on Friday, showed Greens leader Meredith Hunter falling further behind Labor's Yvette Berry.

With more than 91 per cent of the preferences distributed for Ginninderra, Ms Hunter trails the ALP newcomer by 857 votes and is unlikely to be elected.

Based on the Friday count, Labor leader Ms Gallagher would be joined in parliament by incumbents Andrew Barr, Simon Corbell, Mary Porter, Chris Bourke and Joy Burch plus newcomers Yvette Berry and Mick Gentleman.

The likely Liberal MLAs are leader Mr Seselja, incumbents Jeremy Hanson, Alistair Coe, Vicki Dunne, Brendan Smyth and Steve Doszpot and newcomers Giulia Jones and Andrew Wall.

On the primary count, the Liberals lead by 48 votes - out of almost 220,000 ballots counted.

A final result is expected on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, with about 1000 votes left to count.
